Safari Village
When Animal Kingdom opened in 1998, the hub of the park was referred to as Safari Village and served as a departure point to all the different areas of the park. Sometime between March 2000 and March 2001, the name was changed to Discovery Island.  Perhaps this was to honor the dearly departed Discovery Island and to go along with the Discovery River circling the Tree of Life.  The name may also have been changed because guests were often confused and thought this area was the place to board the Kilimanjaro Safaris.
